  1. Maaaaaaaaaaaaaaaan. My heart asplode.

    myscienceofsleep:

So on Thursday i went to the opening for the Harum Scarum show @ 111 Minna Gallery in San Francisco. It was a three artist show, two of the artists I wasn’t familiar with, but I went to see Jesse Balmer’s work in person. Jesse Balmer has been one of my favorite artists for about two years now. He had a Show at Giant Robot last year, but the chance didn’t present itself to see the pieces there.
When I got to the show I got to see these awesome pieces he had made for the show. Following him on tumblr, I got to see how some of the work was developing, which was too cool.
At the show I was able to meet up with Mr. Balmer and ask him my three chosen questions for artists!

    1. How important is art school?
    2. Does an artist need a day job?
    3. How many hours a day do you draw?

My favorite answer was in response to art school, for Balmer never went to an art school. That really gave me some perspective on being an artist, cause most of my favorite artists have graduated from art schools. He said his style developed from inability to draw realistic humans and the likes.

After his responses to the questions, I asked him if he could sign my Demon God Goblin Heaven comic book! He ended up drawing some of his iconic figures on the first page! blew me away.

    Then followed awkward Polaroid time.

Thanks Mr. Jesse Balmer. Keep up the good work.
